Default C-1 Windshield reinstall

Hi guys! My 62 windshield seal needs replacing. I bought the weatherstrip/seal kit and need someone in the Tampa St Petersburg area that wont break the glass or ding my paint job in the process. Anybody know a shop they trust?

I don't know anybody over that way but there are a couple of options over here around Orlando (including the shop that did my '61 windshield install). Might be worth an hour and a half drive to get the right people for the job. PM me if you want specific recommendations.

You really want the best for this particular job...using the wrong hardware, getting things in a bind or forcing parts and you'll be buying another windshield !

If you are not doing it yourself, you absolutely want to be sure that the person you get has done one of these before, this is probably the most "tribal knowledge" C1 specific job, this and maybe the dash pad.
That being said, unless someone chimes in with first hand dealings with a known entity in the Tampa area, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to follow Frank's advise and jump on the 4 for a little trip to Orlando.

Paul

PS Sebring Bill is in Sarasota and has had his car for a long time, he may know of someone up towards Tampa who can do the job.

With Frankie and Paul. Best to have someone that is knowledgeable.. I tried to do it myself and ended up cracking the windshield. After that I ask around at restoration shops and found a glass man that had installed windshields in C-1s. He came to my home and i had everything layed out for him on a work table and he installed it in less than an hour.
I did have to install all the nuts because he had recntly had shoulder surgery.

Now is the time to replace your dash pad if it is old/brittle/damaged. You definitely want a capable and experienced solid axle person taking the frame apart and reinstalling the gasket and glass. Reinstalling the windshield frame on the car is not particularly difficult, but make sure your windshield angle (fore/aft) matches your tops and doors before you button everything up.

It is very easy to break a windshield (so I've been told)........

ps-It still is going to leak no matter what you do........
