That works as well ---------- what I did is install some very thin washers on all the holes behind the bracket.

To retain them I removed the bracket and put a couple of small drops of my Wife's fingernail glue onto the one side of the washer, then lightly secured them with the screws to keep them perfectly centered. Remove the screws and the washers should be retained in place sufficiently. This glue sets up very quickly so will only take about 5-10 minutes.

Can't remember the size of the washer, but you be able to find this from a previous thread from John Z which is where I got the washer concept. This gives the perfect space needed to be able to easily slide your rocker moldings in place.

I like the spacer idea- doing that and I also shaped a bit of a lead on the edge of the molding so it would start in easier.
I also taped the crap out of the bottom of the door and body! All those sharp edges flyin around - scary!

OK, is it possible that there are some molding strips out there that simply will not fit with the retaining rails installed, maybe that are manufactured not to use them? After much struggling, I took the cover off and realized they would NEVER fit. The slot in the molding is narrower than the combination of the retainer and cover. The slot in the molding is .188 and the retainer+cover is about .192 and it is not flat.It gets wider from the upper edge downward. Is the ridge on the retainer supposed to fit fully into the slot in the back of the cover flange so the inner and outer surfaces are parallel?
If I leave out the retainer the molding will obviously slide down onto the cover no problem. I'm beginning to think I have a mix of parts.

Doug unless I'm mistaken , I do not believe the cumulative thickness of the retainer and the cover flange have any bearing on this. The rocker molding simply slides and hangs on the offset lip of the metal retainer bracket and is attached by 2 screws at each end. Just make sure you have the offset of the bracket on the correct side.

The washers just make it simpler for the rocker moldings to slide and hang in place due to the extra .03 or so space it gives you. The rocker can only go on so far which is controlled by alighting the 2 end holes.

The only thing I noticed is that the rocker molding is a bit springy/bouncy in the middle which may be due to the extra space you get from the washers; however, it's not going anywhere!

Well, that would be a very different deal. I've been trying to get the retainer and cover up into the molding. I've never seen a proper installation. Back in '67, when converting my '65 I simply bandsawed up my std rocker panels to make a molding!
I have searched everywhere for some sort of drawing or photo. Yesterday I spoke with the Paragon Tech guy and he made it sound like it was supposed to snap up into the molding......

As a point of reference the top of my rocker moldings are about 3/8" below the bottom of the door and the mounting flange of the cover extends underneath the rocker molding by at least 1/2" (maybe more)?
IMO I think it's best to not rivet the front offset brackets onto the covers until everything is in place when adding new covers and rocker moldings and especially if it's not an original side pipe car due to the numerous variables involved.

Thanks, Ed,
That helps a lot. It seems I was given some bad direction from a someone at a vendor who should know better. I think I'll be able to get it done right now.
Actually, I'd seen that before and forgot all about it.
