Default Instrument panel lights

my instrument panel lights on my 64 are not as bright as I think they should be. I do have the brightness control tuned up all the way on the light switch. Does anyone have an idea for correcting this?

When I removed mine, they had been in there so long that a heavy coating of dust had accumulated on them. You'll be surprised how bright they are when cleaned. Also, as posted above, using the correct bulb helps.

...yeah, just had a problem with my running lights and the bulb was caked in with corrosion and damn near opaque with dust...on the cluster, remember that you need the "winker" bulb for the headlights (and parking brake also if i remember correctly) - not cheap (# 257)

..in a word, yes....

...there are legends out there that some guys could just reach behind the cluster and pop them in and out - yeah, right

...i need to pull the cluster out at least a few inches to get to everything...that's why most people put up with the dim bulbs :yesnod:
