Looks like the ground that can either go on starter body or block.
Yep, if I recall correctly, one of the starter-to-block mount bolts.
Have you been cleaning the engine? Looks like the yellow paint is more prolific than when I inspected the car, implying more orange paint is coming off.
Thought I took good enough pictures when I disassembled but apparently missed something...
Where does the black wire on the left connect?
There are TWO black wires with large ring terminals on their ends in that starter harness; the larger wire (14-ga.) is the ground for the heater blower and wiper motor, and goes under the head of the outboard starter-to-block bolt. The smaller wire (18-ga.) is the sense wire for the battery gauge, and goes on the big battery cable stud along with the battery cable and the 12-ga. red main power feed wire.
Clean the paint and crud off those connections before you button it back up.
Thanks guys. Cleaned off the crud and bolted it on the starter to block mount - which is where it was originally.
Jeff - the paint is really flakey under the car and as I've been doing things like flushing the block, replacing the power steering valve, I'll scrape off the flaking paint which will reveal the yellow (which I assume is primer that someone at some point painted the ENTIRE car with). My intention is as I repair/replace things I will strip the paint and repaint. Here's a pic of the starter before I took it off which also shows how that black terminal was mounted...
