My friend Bob and Jim have C1s and new tops. We have been advised to place a towel over the plexiglass window when lowering. Would someone with experience please advise. cutnout aka Charlie
I use an oversize cotton towel on '67. It's wider (side to side) then the top and covers from before the center bow then back beyond the tail end. Dennis
The pillow is the best $13 you will ever spend to protect your top. Also make sure there is the soft black felt down in the storage compartment (the lid over the gas tank) and keep it CLEAN. This is what your soft top window sits on when the top is "stacked and stowed".
The pillows, towels, and all of that stuff is fine, but the scratches on the C1 windows don't happen on the outside, but rather on the inside. As you fold your top down, you'll see that the window rubs against the gas tank cover as it is compressed. Make sure that you have the felt cover on your tank (or lay a towel flat in there). The pillows are to help "roll" the window, vs. folding it.

I just read Franks post. What he says is exactly correct.
I know in 67 there were no red tops issued...any body ever consider a red top for a 67 BLACK w/ a red stripe..some vettes... my last two were green w/ white stripe and a white top and others with the top matching the stripe
your thoughts?
Im just considering being a little different ...have not bought a new soft top yet
car is in the paint/body shop and will be painted like Mikes Colettas 64

i do the same-----roll up a wide towel------no problems with the top doing this=
When I start to put my top down"canvas" I use a clean micro fiber towel to try to keep any kinks from forming in the rear glass,After I raise the lid I then put the pillow in it.I have the top well covered with felt like a pool table. I use black socks to go over the frame that is against the seat and also use the thumbs of a pair of leather gloves to put over the leavers of the front latches so they don't scratch the inside of the lid.
I also use this usually once a week when the car goes out:
Since were talking soft tops this subject came up at a car show today. Has anyone ever offered aftemarket zip out rear glass on a 58-62?
I had a zip-out rear window for my '59 in the 60s. It made a big difference because the air from the cowl vent flowed right around me and out the window. That window (and an air cushion to sit on) made the car comfortable even on a hot sunny day (if you were moving).

I figured it would.I'm probably years away from another new soft top but I would like the added air flow.
C1s without A/C are just microwave ovens in hot weather when you aren't moving (fast)!
No matter what you do.
You have to stay hydrated and sunblock the snot out of yourself. I have a cigarette lighter mounted truck fan for those days; a little help at least.
I am now preparing myself for the ridicule that is sure to follow
Not by me. I use a little fan myself. It sure helps when you sitting still.
Sometimes i even fake like I have A/C,I'll cool down the garage with the car in it then roll up the windows and use an refreezable ice pack behind the fan and the interior stays cool for about a half an hour.
