Default pertronix wiring help

I am in the process of wiring a 64 corvette with pertronix III. i have seen the illustration by Jeff with the 3 types of wiring diagrams. I just have a few questions. I have a accel super stock coil and I know to connect the black wire from the ignitor 3 to the - side of coil . I plan on wiring my pertronix like the middle diagram that Jeff has posted. "sorry i do not know how to post pictures" my question is what do i do with the wires on the + side of coil, one of the wires is hooked up to the starter solenoid. do i still leave that attached to the solenoid? does the top wire on the ballast resistor to the + terminal of coil need to be larger size? any help would be appreciated because i do not want to start a fire. thanks. and i have already placed an inline fuse from the top wire of the ballast resistor to the + terminal of coil. thanks. david

I have wired more than one of these units in various vehicles. Dont over-think it, the wire is more than thick enough. The pertronix system is solid state and uses a low amp draw. try it and it should work.

The wire from the starter solenoid is to provide full power and bypass the resistor for the coil only when the car is cranking to start. If your new coil does not require the resistor, most do not, then this wire is not needed but it is not hurting anything either.

I use an MSD Blaster-II coil in both my Ignitor III conversions...however if you really want to dig into it Pertronix has a test to determine the best coil for your setup:

Do not use the flame thrower coil. Much has been said about this on the forum. I was skeptical and held out. It finally got to worry me bad enough, so off I went to my FLAPS to pick up a MSD blaster II, guess what failed on the way home. I made it, barely. Now with the new MSD, all's well.

What is the difference between coils #8140 and #8145 and should I use a ballast resistor?

A: The 8140 has 1.4 OHMs primary resistance and will need a ballast resistor when used with a point style distributor. The 8145 has 0.7 OHMs primary resistance and will require a ballast resistor when used with a Unilite or MBI distributor.
I have no idea if this means you still need one with the petronix but would look into it further.
