Default another KO question

....nah, i know how install them (btdt)...looking at the recent thread where duke gave some advice on left-right made me pop the KOs on the coupe (on jack stands anyway waiting for the engine)...the thread directions are OK but i now realize the wheels themselves are marked "westerm wheel" and have the "correct" numbers YET the spinners are marked "taiwan"....wtf.........do the offshore variants also use the "correct" numbers on their stampings????

thanks

A couple of questions (actually, three) :

1. When did you buy them, or approximately what epoch or year, whatever you can come up with, were they manufactured.

2. What, if any, marking/stampings/etc. are on the face of the adapters that indicate what side they should go on. (You should be able to see any markings with the adapters bolted on.)

3. Same as question two, but applied to anywhere on the nuts - colloquially known as "spinners" - any markings that would be an aid to correct installation.

I explained how my early Western repros were marked in the other thread, and I'm interested in knowing if the later repros are similarly marked.

I can tell you that my nuts do not say "Taiwan".

duke....thanks, i have to wait until thursday or so to get back to the car, but here's what i remember.....

...the wheels came with the car (the coupe, which i bought about 5 years ago) and nobody knows anyhting about the car's past....there are no codes on the wheel for direction of installation...the spinner has taiwan and either LH or RH....the roadster also has western wheels, "usa" on the spinner - that's all i can remember - both sets of wheels have provisions for pins, ALTHOUGH, if memory serves me correctly (it rarely does these days), the holes are all equal length on the coupe (taiwan) whereas the roadster (usa) has one hole longer than the others..not sure...i will also check the adapters

..be back to you later this week

btw. what are your markings on the spinner???

As I said in the other thread, my nuts have an arrow and "off" between each bar, for a total of three such markings on each nut.

Duke,

------What is cast in the backside of your spinners? It seems to me that early repros(before the safety slots and pins were incorporated)had only L and R cast(not stamped). All the spinners I have seen have the appropriate L,R,and arrow stamped in them whether new or old.Im not sure at what point the spinners ended up with that awful Tiawan cast in them, but its been there for quite awhile now.
------Worst thing is that the chrome cones reflect the Tiawan perfectly in reverse. If you have noticed this once, you will see it practicly every time you walk by a car equipped with repros. Not much info but I hope it helps..................Bill S

There are no markings on the backside of my nuts. My KOs were manufactured in the late seventies by Western - probably before they moved manufacturing offshore.

They are faithful reproductions of the originals. It appears that the current repros are not so accurate.

Duke

...yeah, i should have been specific, i was referring to any markings on the backside of the spinner.........yet, the set on the roadster has "usa" on the back of the spinner instead of "taiwan" and based on duke's known reference set, i suspect that set is really of offshore (perhaps early?) manufacture...any other opinions out there?

thanks

Kid

Looked at the backside of my spinners. I think they are from Corvette America probably around 1992 ??? The driver side front and rear read the same as follows Ear #1 "BU4" Ear #2 "LH" Ear #3 "USA". The passenger side front and rear read the same as follows Ear #1 "BU1" Ear #2 "RH" Ear #3 "USA".

hope in some way this helps

..john, yeah, unfortunately it does...looks like i have plain jane fourth-world manufacture KO's and i was hoping for a little more (at least on the roadster) ...freakin' KO's....looks like i'll eventually go with TTII's and sell the little POS if i can confirm they're boat anchors...even though they now stay on, i'm beginning to hate the little bastards :mad
