So my coupe was not sold to me as a numbers car, but when I looked at it I noticed it was an 870 block and the pad was machined as though the block was decked at some point.
All of a sudden I got the bug to look more into the numbers for fun, I cleaned the grime off the casting that gives the date, turns out it is k 2 2, so this makes it a November 2, 1962 engine right ?
So that rules out it being the original motor for my 5/7/1964 build, I wonder was it from another corvette though, these blocks and date casting styles weren't unique to corvette engines in 62 right ?

The 62 corvette engine date had one digit for the year like yours which is a 2 for 62. The passenger car engines had 2 digits for the year which would be 62. If you engine came out of a passenger car the date you show would be k262

Yes, I had read that in order to be Corvette, it needs a single digit year code, but I didn't know if having a single digit code guaranteed it was Corvette.
Certainly not important or significant, but given its such a late 62 motor, it might mean some poor SWC out there is missing its engine !
