Default Engine stalls intermittently.

My other car is a 1964 Chevelle with a 283 cu in, HEI distributor and an external voltage regulator alternator. The car keeps stalling intermittently and the radio goes off as well, headlights stay on. I can restart it around 30 seconds later. It does this after an hour drive and after 10 minutes sometime. Early cold in the morning and in the hot afternoon sometimes, completely random. It's as if I'm simply turning the key off. So I replaced the ignition switch, 30 minutes later same thing. I then replaced the voltage regulator and discovered 1 the 4 wires to that harness was broken. Repaired wire in connector, got Eureka Syndrome drove it to and from work and it stalled 3 times on the way home with the same symptoms described above.
Thanks in advance, always receive great information on this forum.

I'd look at the Chevelle's schematic and see if the ignition power and radio have something in common such as a firewall harness plug.

Another thought.... in my mental cobwebs I recall the HEI's requiring more current than std points/coil. You might be overloading your wiring/connections etc. I'd get a jumper ready to hot wire the HEI from a good power source under the hood next time it dies. Careful not to short out anything, cap off the ignition source +12V when you do this. And, be ready to disconnect it to stop the engine.
