Just installed a KHE 100 in my 59 from ZIP (available from several sources).
Nice unit... works well until I turn the engine on....cannot hear AM tho FM and MP3 aux works well.
My 59 has a generator...new shielded voltage regulator to generator wiring harness.... engine does not have the chromed ignition shielding (very pricy).
Owners manual recommends putting LC Filter on the power lead.... I assume might be availabel form someplace like Radio Shack.
Anyone have any experience with this or any suggestions?? Me thinks I might just have to live with it tho I will probably be using AM very little anyways. Thanks
the biggest source of radio interference is the distributor, just having the distributor shield piece will go a long way towards cutting off the interference.
but, having said that.... AM is probably gonna suk no matter what you do...

When I purchase my '57, radio was all static with the engine running. After I removed the Pertronix electronic ignition and went back to the original distributor, no more static. In both instances all shielding was in place. However I should comment that the Petronix control unit was mounted behind the passenger side kick panel so the wiring to it may have been the real culprit.

You need the ignition shielding.
That's why GM put in on all radio equipped cars in the first place. Fiberglass cars will not stop RF interference.

That's when they had carbon core wires. Use solid spiral wound spark plug wires. I use them with no shielding and the original radio (albiet am only works well with no ignition interference.
