Default 66 knock offs with 68 date code???

I looked at a set of 66 knock offs recently, but they have a 68 date. Seller wants a small fortune for them. How does this impact value? I assume they kept producing these wheels for a few years after they were used on the Corvettes. They are still in the original GM boxes.

Thanks

Well, if they really are actually dated '68, they couldn't possibly be correct/original for any 1966 Corvette, so that has to reduce the value significantly as compared to "original" KO's someone could use on a judged car.

Seems to me '68 "over the counter" (?) wheels would be as unoriginal as a CE block... not worth much.

Would GM keep offering them even after they were replaced by bolt-ons in '67 for safety reasons?

If they are truly Kelsey-Hayes original P48 Aluminum wheels. I would think that they are almost as valuable as correct dated ones.
Except for the spare I dont believe that the dates on the wheels can be seen when installed on the car and there for the date is not judged but I may be wrong on that.
So my guess is that they are worth much more than Repo's but not quite as much as correct dated ones. They are still correct & original Kelsey-Hayes wheels.

Yes - KO wheels were sold by Service for many years after 1966, but they came with big chrome hex nuts and a special wrench instead of the 3-ear spinners. We called them "Nader nuts". The only "safety issue" was that the spinners violated an MVSS provision that prohibited "winged projections" on wheels.

Wow, never saw the red/white/blue hex nut before, very nice looking IMO!

That wrench looks kind of short, was it designed for a knockoff hammer? I'd have preferred a longer-for-leverage tool with a step-on provision for loosening or tightening, and maybe a hammer as last resort.

They should have kept KO's for '67 with this nut instead of bolt-ons, then offered the same system with 7" rims in '68 and 8" once that became the standard C3 wheel width.

Great pictures John. I have never seen that before.
If you're coming to B/G this stop by our spots R101-104.
We'll have a cold beverage for ya.
We also have a lot of room in our spot, our 67 won't be there. It was chosen for the Marque of Excellent Display at the NCM and will be there for the summer.
Gosh I miss driving it to the local cruise nights but she looks good at the museum.
See ya at Bloomington.

Congrats on the Marque of Excellence selection!

Won't be at Bloomington this year - major aging parent medical issues keeping us close to home.

I have seen several sets of the over the counter dated wheels through the years. They usually do not bring the same money for a set that is dated in the same condition. The hardest original knock off wheels are the very early sets that have no dates on them at all. They bring a little more money for the guys with the earlier built cars. But I have not seen of set in over 15yrs of dealing in parts.

What do you have to do if you are gonna put your car in a dispaly for an extended period to keep from things like carburators, brakes, etc going bad?
