My speedo cable broke
is it possible to change just the inside cable
if so,,, can it be done from transmission end
i checked vendors,, and really dont know the length of my cable
4 speed manual transmission
It will only come out from the speedometer end. Once out any speedometer repair shop can make you a new one and use your old one as a template and give you the correct ends. If you can't find a speedo shop I had both my tach and speedo cables and jackets made at a hot rod shop/custom car shop. If you choose to remove your entire speedo cable and jacket the biggest PITA will be the grommet where your speedo cable passes through the firewall.

Let me edit my comments. I just noticed you have a '62. Not sure now which end yours comes out of. Still though a speedo shop can build a new one.

It comes out from the speedometer end, but if completely broken, you will have to disconnect at the trans and take the whole thing out. Have one made per above or most auto parts stores sell a generic cable.
Thx
the inside cable is broken a couple inches before the trans connection
I will pull it out from speedo end and have a new one made up
If it is only a couple of inches, you can fix if a dorman speedometer repair kit ($5). If you have slack you can crimp on a 1 inch aluminum rectngular end (part of the kit). then mount to tranny. May need to use pipe cutter to cut cable sheath to get more room. if too short buy a 90 degree adapter, it is quicker than spending hours to reroute a new cable.
