Default Info on double Hump heads

I have a set of double hump heads casting 3890462 are they usable for todays engines. Could they be use on a TPI engine built. The local shop told me they would be good for building a high compression gas guzzling engine and would not recommend them for a driver type car.

Will work on a TPI ...I stand corrected.
They are fine for a modern sbc, but dont have accessory holes for your PS and AC brackets.
They are great heads, but for the money of a rebuild you can get better aluminum ones.
What are you wanting to do with them?

Actually you could use those heads with a TPI setup if the TPI was from an 85 or 86 Camaro or any year Corvette. do you need a TPI system to fit them Dale? I happen to have a spare one you could acquire
That being said, unless you can get those heads pretty cheep you would be better off to get a later design head. not having acc holes in the ends of the heads can be a pain, and many newer heads flow better right out of the box.

HI Russ,
They came with my 62. Was wondering if I could use them and have any benefit. I have a complete 85 vette a bought as a donor car for the 62 built. I actually bought the car just for the suspension, but lately been think of using the tpi and 700r out of it for the built as well. That's unless i run into a decent price LS engine and t56.
As per the guy I bought the 62,the heads have very low mileage since rebuilt. They look very clean.

I'm a little fuzzy on the 85 Vette L-98 heads, but as I recall they were not the really good "113" heads used on the later L-98 engines. even so, they would still be quite a bit better than the double hump heads IMHO. Personally I'd sell the humps to someone who wants them as a "correct" head for their car.

Looks like I should sell them and let someone else put them to use. I wonder what they are worth.

Out here on the left coast, roundy-roundy dirt track stockers have to use OEM heads, no aftermarket. The double hump heads are their weapons of choice.

Also vintage road racers often use the double hump heads, although in highly modified form.

So, if you sell the heads, restorers and racers will be your target market.

You can find the date code under the part number in the rocker valley and post that so people can see what year car they were made for.
