Is the L84 much faster (if at all) than the L76?
L84 seems to generate its max torque at higher RPM.
My 65 Coupe L76 is really nice to drive, plenty fast, BUT i feel the acceleration/power curve is somewhat too linear, not much of a really kick, and I got 4.11 rear end. It pulls hard all the way but never gives me neck snapping accelerations I was used to with my 2008 Z06 (ok, I know one can't compare the 2 cars). Wondering if that's just the way the L76 runs (I know it's a bit weak on low end torque). I usually get a bit of an extra kick at around 5500rpm and shifts soon after (i might be able to push it more but i'm always a bit hesitant...).
So what does FI add? Better mileage? I'm already getting astonishing good mileage, 10-12mpg! ))
I won't argue over which one is faster. I do have an opinion though. The drag racer types I THINK preferred the carb engine. The road racers, the FI engines.
The FI will give better mileage, it's smoother and has better throttle response than the carbureted engine.
You could answer your question easy enough. Just do some track time with your car as is and then bolt on the FI unit and do the same tricks.
i've had FI cars for 45+ years, in my humble opinion.... FI provides much better driveability and mileage than a carbed engine; AND, by MY seat-of-the pants it adds to the lowend performance..

I've always understood the FI's were preferable to the carbs particularly for road racing because in the hard turns the carbs would either flood or empty out.
