Been helping a friend on his 67 vert. His car sat for a few weeks while he worked on the body and the battery died. He charged it and after hooking it back up the wires on the starter fried. He replaced them and then every time he tried hooking power back up we got huge sparks. We chased wiring and couldn't find an issue until we decided to put the battery back on the charger. Bingo...reverse polarity indicated on the charger. I've heard of this but never seen it happen. Battery is under warranty. Problem fixed. Too strange, this stuff usually only happens to me, but this time it was someone else.
Interestingly enough, this battery was ok for a year. The mechanic said if a battery gets too low sometimes it will do this. I have never seen it happen however. He also said it could have exploded. That would have been very bad.
Just last week my boat battery did the same thing reverse polarity , after I removed it and charged it ,Took it back to the parts house they never seen that happen before and gave me a new battery ,Crazy
