All 56-66 small block Corvettes, had a horse power decal on the sides of the valve covers.

On 56-61's, there was a water soluble decal (just like those found in the models you built as a kid) on the side of both valve covers, listing the engine's horsepower.

Starting in 62, the low horse (250 and 300) engines, with painted valve covers, got a plate on the top of the cover with 327 cu in on it, and the water soluble horsepower decal on the side. In 62 and early 63, the 327 plate used was aluminum with raised letters. Later 63's, through early 66's, used a foil label, on the top of the steel covers. Early in 66, the foil 327 label and the horsepower decal, were replaced by a single decal on the top of the cover, which listed both the cubic inches and the horsepower.

All 62-66 engines with aluminum valve covers (including the 64 327/365), used just the water soluble horsepower decals, on the side of the valve covers.

Starting in 67, the valve cover decals on small blocks, were replaced by the foil label on top of the air cleaner. Big blocks always used the air cleaner labels.

You should buy the NCRS judging and technical guide. A lot of stuff like that is in it. Great book if you are trying to get your vette right.

Great summary, thanks for taking the time to write it out.

I see the AIM calls for a decal. But I don't see any evidence of one installed on my #00029 with around 49000 miles on it.
