Default Stutter (?)

'65 L76, orig motor, 69k orig miles.

"Stutter" began suddenly 2 weeks ago. Prior to that car has been running great. But 2 weeks ago I drove the car to dinner and all good on the way there. As I pulled out of the parking lot to go home it started to stutter. Never enough to stall, made it home fine.

3 weeks before this stutter, I adjusted my lifters, changed plugs, checked dwell, checked/ adjusted timing and idle, and adjusted mixture screws to get 8-9" vacuum. Car ran great after all that, until the above incident.

I read the numerous prior posts on the topic of stutter. Seems like it could be a timing issue, so I re-checked timing and it's 12 initial, 36 all in at approx 3000 rpm. Plugged vacuum at can and carb, took a drive and no change - still stutters. Wire from breaker plate on distributor is good. Distributor is bolted down tight.

Puzzled what caused the sudden change in performance. I have a B28 vac can, which is the correct one for my car. It's been on for 2 yrs and always been fine. Could it be the vac can?

Am I correct in assuming it's not "missing" since it's happening at low RPM, or could it be a bad plug wire?

What else should i check?
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Any thoughts anyone?
I think I will pull all plugs and see if they tell me anything.

Since you changed the wires I would check them to see if one might have been damaged. Usually due to heat. Maybe it is just loose on the plug.
Also, could it be a clutch problem? If it happens at low RPMs that is where it would show up first.

Good Luck

I would recheck the spark plug gaps and make sure the wires have a tight fit. If that doesn't help then try another ignition coil.
I had a similar experience with mt 327/350. # 8 plug had a gap of about the thickness of a piece of paper. The only thing I could
think of is I must have dropped it and just picked it up and reinstalled it. That combined with a very loose fitting wire. New wires
and regapped plug made a huge difference.
