Default More light bulbs

Lot of heated discussion on here a few weeks ago about tail light bulbs. We'll let the camera do the talking.

Tail lights (daylight shot) LH 15W/50W halogen, RH std 1157

Brake lights, same bulbs as in the first shot.

Replacement lenses are $11 from Paragon Reproductions. I'll risk that every few years. Bright bulbs, whether these or LEDs are cheap insurance. You want to be seen or have your rear end smashed in by some punk kid that isn't used to antique car "invisible" tail lights?

And for the smart aleck that thinks "I haven't been around these cars much at night" I ask you one more time, did the tail light melting problem change from '63 to '64 when the bulb spec changed from 1038 to 1157? No.

LED tail light assemblies in a 65.

There is also a long post on this forum concerning LED tail lights.

You can use any bulbs you please. I choose 1157. Here's some pictures I just took with my phone in my garage after I saw your pictures. First, dark. Second light on. Third, with flash. That punk kid you know must not be paying attention to any bulb if he doesn't see these. Really don't know why it upsets you that everyone doesn't want to use the same higher current bulbs you do.

Sorry, those are brake lights, you're discussing tail lamps I guess.

We're talking BOTH tail and stop lights. I took pictures of both to show daytime visibility difference, if you read the captions.

Doesn't upset me at all that anyone uses what he pleases in his car. That was your own conclusion, not my opinion; I only made a recommendation to a fellow CF member who can make his own decision. What upsets me is people making uninformed judgments about what I or anyone else chooses to use for bulbs or anything else on the car. "The lenses will melt" "It's always best to use the factory spec whatever" Blahhhhh...get some data before you spout off.

I see, your opinion is "recommendations", everyone else's is "spouting off". Clears it up for me. By the way, I'm not criticizing what you use, I couldn't care less, my only input in this is stating what I use. If you don't like my choice, use yours. I just get some pleasure out of using what the owner's manual says because after 48 years I still have that choice. I'd still use leaded gas if it was available. Who knows, maybe after that punk kid runs over me because of my "invisible" tail lights, I'll post back how right you were and I should have listened. Thank God he doesn't live near me and hasn't hit me since I bought my first 65 in 1968. I've been lucky.
