Default Carb Issues

I bought a Holley Street Avenger 600 CFM a year and a half ago and had problems right from opening up the box. The car ran poorly and after several attempts to adjust it just plain sucked. Called holley within two weeks of purchase and they were no help. I ran the car with pure high test gasoline and put a fuel filter on before and after the fuel pump. Checked the little screen in the carb as well. I finally got around to buying a rebuild kit and tore it down yesterday. NONE of my screws were tight and I am talking about the inner screws. Holley has NO quality control whatsoever period. They have a great product when its put together properly. Next time I will save myself some trouble and tear it down and check everything before I put it on. Thanks for letting me VENT.

PS Runs like a rocket-ship now!

Don't know if anyone else has the problem which is the rubber hose that connects the gas tank to the fuel line. Mine is rubber and deteriorating from the ethanol gas.

....which is why you shouldn't use heater/vacuum/windshield washer hose for fuel lines.

Any generic hose rated for use with gasoline (E10 included) should be described like so:

Dayco® Fuel Line Hose is designed for use on all types of gasoline engines, except those with fuel injection. This hose specification does not meet any EPA or California Resources Board emissions requirements; and, should be used only on vehicles exempt from such emmision regulations. Note: NOT suitable for gasoline/oil mixed fuels, or bio-diesel fuel. NOT suitable for fuel injection systems.
  • Offers excellent resistance to oil, gasoline, grease, and weather
  • Constructed with a neoprene cover and nitrile tube for use with leaded, unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel
  • Meets SAE J30R7 requirements and the fuel permeation requirements of SAE J1527 Class 2 specifications
  • Made in the USA
