If that doesn't work, just do the quartz conversion. You can do it yourself in about a half hour or so and just save the guts to the old clock in case someone ever wants the original. I converted mine to quartz about 6 years ago and its run great ever since.
With the original clock, each time you adjust the clock it makes a small adjustment. If you keep adjusting it should eventually match up. If it's varying fast and slow, you may have to clean it up. When you set it for daylight savings time and back again in the fall, it will mess up your speed again and you'll have to start all over.
