Default Reflected sun hood damage follow up

Just a follow up and a reminder to cover your chrome breather if you leave your hood up in the sun for more than a few minutes. Some may remember that I put a towel over my breather and the wind blew it off at a car show this spring. The reflected sun beam off the breather blistered about 25 bubbles in my paint in less than 15 minutes. It actually burned a hole in the hood weatherstrip when it reached it, and smoked. That was the tip off that my towel was off. I have since bought a 15" woven place mat at Big Lots for $2 (in maroon) that covers the breather perfectly and will allow the wing nut to hold it on. For anyone interested, here's a couple of after paint pictures now that it's prepared to take to the fall AutoFair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway tomorrow. I'll be parked with the club on pit road.

Thanks for the tip! The car looks great, love the stance in the profile shot. Could I ask what size tires you're running and if you have any rubbing issues. I'm planning to go with the knock offs on my 65 as well and that's the look I'm going for. Thanks.

I'm running 205-75's. I bought it with 205-70's and the speedo was off by about 3 mph at 60. It matches a gps with the 205-75's.

You guys know, of course, a standard 'plush' toilet lid cover is a perfect fit over midyear air cleaners & held nicely by their elastic band.

Can you imagine the ridicule and snide remarks you would get from your car buddies for using a toilet seat cover on your Corvette?

I agree with the place mat part, but I only put it on there when I need to leave the hood up in the direct sunlight. I don't intend to burn the paint again.

I'd be afraid someone would lift the breather cover and pee in the carb. I'll stick with the placemat.

Mine currently has 205-70's and it's just not what I'm looking for. The 75's fill the wheel wells much better. Thanks for the info.
