Keeping my car an automatic, but deciding if I want to use a T350 or 700R4. Has anyone installed a 700R4 in a C1 Vette, and if so are there any fitment problems.
Installed a 700R4 in my wife's 62 with only a few problems but this is not a cheap transplant. Purchased the trans from Bowtie Overdrives as well as the shifter that looks like the stock shifter. The shifter bolts to the tail shaft and exits thru the tunnel as the stock one would. Had to do a little grinding to the shift slots that did not match up perfect when shifted in to a certain gear. Purchased a LED shift position indicator #LOK-CINB-1750 from Summit Racing that fits down over the shifter and looks great. Made a rear mount from a 3 X 3/8 inch flat bar with 3/4 inch spacers to the frame to align the drive line and clear the frame. You can purchase the whole kit from vendors if you want to go that way, like I say this is not a cheap transplant. Oh yes you will need an oil cooler as well or you will get no warranty from the vendor. Ordered a new radiator from Dewitts and they installed the oil cooler for free. Ebay has a lot of 700R4 shifters. Expect to spend around 3k to do this task and that's if you do the work.
