Default Frame Off progress

I posted back in June to get tips on pulling the body. I have not posted with as detailed a chronology as Steve's 65 or others, but I'm making pretty good progress. Pictures are here

http://s267.photobucket.com/user/Mic...%20restoration

and the first fire up after many years for the engine is here

Seems OK.

So - the current question is what is the best tire size if I plan to run KO's (choice #1)

or 15x7 Rally's (choice 2)

Car is on aftermarket springs that lower it a little from stock (see pic on photobucket of back in the day).

Thanks,

Default good job

Frame looks great. You did a really good job. I am in the middle of my body off. I have some issues, but that is to be expected. I am really impressed with your work.

Default Traling arm help needed

So its been a while since I have posted. I got tires & wheels mounted today and discovered a potential problem. Don't know what the right approach is from here, so seeking advice. (no comments please on the shop, it needs some serious cleaning)

I am running 215/60/15's on 7" Rally wheels. Looks like on the drivers side the parking brake cable retainer bracket is rubbing the tire, but not on the other side.

have others used this same combo on their C2? This should be same as 65-67 w/ disk brakes and 7" Rally wheels from many 70's cars.

I am thinking my trailing arms I had rebuilt may be suspect, but before replacing them, does anyone have one off the car and could make measurements so that I can tell if mine are straight or not?

looking for dimensions A and B

Thanks.

Good progress, it was a bit deja vu reading this for me.

Did you cross measure your frame to make sure it is not bent? Aside from a trailing arm being bent that would be the only other thing I could think of causing this. Do you have it shimmed the same on both sides? Not sure you could get that much skew with a whacked out shimming difference?....just a couple of thoughts

NM, after thinking on this and looking at the pic the shimming would have no bearing on the tire/bracket relationship.

have you verified the rims have an allowable amount of offset for this chassis?

Michael H - You're concerned because of the narrow gap between parking brake bracket on the outside of the trailing arm and the wheel? Back when I tried to use a set of 15x7's from an early 70's Monte Carlo, they were close then too so I shaved of a bit of the bracket. In the end, I went with different rims because those 7" GM rallys have a bit too much offset.

Vet65te, thanks for the reply. I was looking for that advice. Dang - looks like I will have to put these new firestones on some different wheels. I have a call into VanSteel about trailing arm dimensions. i think I have one good and one bad, but given I am using the 70's style montecarlo rally's, appears that they are offset too much to the inside.

maybe I can sell the wheels to a camaro owner. I know they fit those OK.

Steve, the frame is straight - and no, I did not check to make sure that the wheels offset is OK for use. I just figured that if 68-82's had 8" rims that a 7" rim should fit. Guess I'll check the offset on my 8" rims on my 67 Camaro for comparison.

I measured 4-1/4" from the back side of the wheel that mounts to the lug nuts to the back edge. so these are 4-1/4 backspacing, 1/4" offset. Wheel is 8" rim to rim. and yes these are "7-inch" rims - says 15x7 on them.

Thinking now about some repro knock off's, but I still need to check the trailing arms, as looking at them on the frame it does not look like I can adjust toe - in to get the wheels pointed straight. Trailing arm is adjusted almost all the way toe'd in.

more surprises...

Default Frame Off 63 SWC Progress update

Have not posted in a while, so I thought I'd provide an update.

Replaced trailing arm (it was very bent) and got everything together, put engine in the shop for rebuild in July, got a bunch of odd and end items from Paragon, and got the driveline installed this evening. Making progress. Paragon is now one of my best friends. Prices seem lower than most, plus they have a discount program for us folks spending gobs of money on our restorations.

I hope to get the carb gone thru and engine fired up this weekend. I will most likely change wheels as the backs barely work with 1/4" spacers behind them. Undecided between Original KO's and Vintage American Racing Torq Thrust D's. Plenty of time for that..

Body is next...

Thanks for the update!

Its looking good. I'd think I'd go with some vintage looking Torque Thrusts on a SWC...

Just sayin...

What color is your car... from factory? Interior?
