Looks like both inner fenders have been replaced so is there another way to check if it's a Fuelie body?

VIN on the frame is 110229. Had a law enforcement friend work on the figuring it out.

AB= 3:36 Passenger car station wagon. 2 02= Feb 2nd assembly date.

Are you sure it is not AP , which is 4:11 positraction Corvette for a 1961 Corvette. All 1962 Corvette differentials have codes beginning with letter ''C'', like CA, CF, CM etc. depending on the ratio. Again, I go back to the vin number and the white painted cove. This may be a 1961 RPO 687 Heavy brake and suspension car. I believe it was born this way as the axel rebound straps have not been broken.

Differential should have a casting #3789812 with a big ''P'' for positraction.

Have you made any progress on the vin # stamp?

This was a common practice in 1957 thru early 1959 with ROP 684 H.D. Brake and suspension cars when the original HD 5.5 wheels were missing or worn out. A standard 5 inch wide wheel would not seat properly over the fins. Most ''racers'' would buy the American Mags which would fit over the fins. However, by late 59 when the RPO became 687, the standard wheel would work over the now different finned drums.

You really need to slow down.....to go fast here. The little info you give is all good, but not complete on any one area. Can you email me at jim@vettefinderjim.com your phone number?

In 61, they made 10939 cars, so this could be 1961 Corvette vin #10867S110229, or the 10229th car made Monday July 3, 1961.

In 62 they made 14531 cars, and if this is a 62 model, the vin # would be 20867S110229. If so, this car was produced on April 24, 1962.

In either case, the complete vin # should be displayed on the frame in two locations on top of the left frame rail.

Now look closer at the differential and re-check the AB vs AP code and the casting number that is visible on the photo, but I can't read it. A February 2, 1962 differential makes sense in a April 24, 1962 production car.

Yes. What side is the washer bottle bracket attached to the inner fender. Passenger side is FUEL INJECTION, Driver side is Carburetor.

What engine is in the car? Casting number in back of the block driver side should be 3782870 for all 1962 Corvettes. First year for 327. I am sure you know this as you have a 61 Corvette original owner car.

Also, the tach should have a 6500 redline. 340hp and fuel cars had same.

look for tach cable hole in the firewall behind the distributor (f.i.), non fuel cars had a tach drive generator. in the 1961 model. Check ink stamping on the tachometer casing: is is "cable speed" or "twice cable speed"?

Look for washer cable hose hole by the rh firewall hood cable latch assembly (female latch), different on f.i. cars

Had someone who knows these cars much better than me come by today and he found the evidence that you refer to that indicates this car was a big brake fuelie! Pretty exciting.
