Default 58-62 dash question

Something I have been wondering about...

Has anyone ever removed the padding on the dash of one of these cars, and then panted the dash instead of re-installing the padding.

I have no idea what this would look like, but wondered if it was feasible to do this?

I saw a few C-1 s done like that back in the sixties and early seventies before the dash pads were available. Personally I didn't like the look as they're are too many seams and rough surfaces.
I have seen a few very well done custom dash pads made from leather and vinyl with sewn seams . Some looked very nice with the sewn seams instead of the molded vinyl.

Ed,

This would look like hell as there are too many gaps and seams to pull this off.
Billy Dawson makes a molded fiberglass dash overlay that looks great. You can either paint it, or sew up a custom leather upholstery for it. It is easily removable, since it is not glued in place like an original dash.

Here is a link to that page on his website.

Anybody got a picture handy of a 58-62 dash with the pad off and the instrument cluster removed?

I can't recall what it looks like under the pad.

This is a kit car from 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour. Car looked nice, but as I got up close I found lots of trim figment issues as well as other things that really lacked attention to detail.

The painted dash looked ok....certainly different....

Yeah, I sort of see the problem areas.

My real goal is to have a 58-62 instrument cluster in a 56-57 car, or maybe the whole 58-62 dash setup in a 56-57 car.

Just thinking out loud.
