That's amazing, John. How did that discovery happen?
Our development crew was always looking for more top end, and our Aero guy was Larry Rathgeb (same guy who did the aero development on the original Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbird); it worked on the "wing" cars, and sure enough, it worked even better on the Viper. Same reason the 2003-up Vipers have a full belly pan - 3 pieces, 46 screws.
Jim
oddly enough, that doesn't seem to be true when i leave the rear of the 62 hood unlatched and open the cowl vent; i still get cool air.
Bill
I tend to agree with Bill. When I built the hood scoop/engine cover on my 62 I had planned on having the scoop facing rearward just like the Trans Ams because that's the type scoop I used. But have noticed when driving in the rain(not by choice) the air down force the windshield has. The rain will come 3/4 the way up the hood and just stop.

And Bill you are probably correct!
I PRESUME that is Bill Tower's car, right?
Yup - a coupla years ago when Bill brought the SR-2 over to my Garage Mahal for a SACC seminar. Nifty car with under 10k mi!
Lessee if this works: Bill taking the SR-2 outta my garage (about 30 secs)
I know it's an old thread...but somewhere it's written that Duntov said the open louvers would allow oil mist from the engine to land on the windshield...not good.
