Default Engine ID help

I have a SB with staggered bolt valve covers and F225FJ on engine pad. So, I know it's an early motor, just wondering if it's a 265 or 283 and the horsepower. Or a website with this info. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
CJ

FJ with staggered bolt pattern valve covers is a 1957 283 CI 250 HP FI PG engine from a passenger car.

This info is from The Lime Book and to me indicates a very rsre engine.

The same code FJ is used on 60-61 348 CI 340 HP, SHP, 4 speed passenger cars.

FJ is Also used on 1969 327 CI , 210 HP, 2barrel manual trans, passenger car.

Thanks for the quick replies. That's what's so good about forums, knowledgeable folks willing to help.

So, FJ is a '57 283 ci FI PG passenger car.

Can someone explain F225. Is that the date?

Thanks
CJ

1957, 283 cu in, 250 hp, fuel injected, powerglide transmission, in a passenger car, assembly date February (2), 25th.

The 3 digit date code (no leading zero for the month) indicates that it was assembled prior to mid January, 1960 (roughly speaking).

"F" is the Flint MI engine plant. "2" is February and "25" is the 25th day of the month.

So the engine was assembled on February 25th, 1957, at Flint MI.

For a Corvette Block,

F = Flint
2 = Feb
25 = 25th day of Feb which was an Monday.

Edit: looks like gbvette62 and I were typing at the same time...............
Be interesting to know the casting date from the block at right rear of the block.
