Good luck with your new venture. We'll miss your opinions on engine issues and build's. IMO, the C3 big blocks are under priced compared to the C2's. Your new car has lots of room to appreciate.
Nice looking car. Do you plan to bring it back to the original green?
I have owned a 69 convertible and 72 LT1 a/c coupe. The body lines are beautiful. The convertible is more tall person friendly.
I did almost the exact same thing a couple of years ago. I sold my 65 and bought a 69 400HP tri power. I had always wanted a big block also. I found out that Tri power cars are very finicky. Hard to keep the carbs in tune. One minute they will run like a raped ape the next they need attention. You can't beat the way the engine looks though. It is an awesome display of power. My BB didn't have the options like yours so I'm sure that makes a big difference. I would think Air Conditioning in Texas is a must.
I kept it for one summer then went back to the midyear. I missed the C2's classic design.
However, you certainly won't get hurt if you want to get back into the C2's later on. I think it is a good trade.

Good Luck with your new C3
This is nonsense. There is nothing simpler than keeping the three Holleys in tune. The outer carbs are both actuated by vacuum. There are no accelerator pump issues, no idle settings, no metering plate. The only thing to worry about is making sure the linkage is properly functioning and that the vacuum diaphragm is OK. The rest of the setup is like having a single Holly 2 barrel.
That is not to say that the Tri-Power system isn't without its faults. The metering plates are prone to warping. The connections can leak. As with many cars that sit for a long time, you don't want the carbs gumming up. But keeping them in tune if they are in good condition is not one of them.
not when you look at production numbers compared to mid year big block
I think it depends on which big blocks you focus upon. If you focus on the total set of big blocks, you would be right. There were 49,647 C3 big blocks versus 22,238 C2 big blocks.
But, from a value perspective, if you focus on the performance big blocks (i.e. those with solid lifters), then there were more C2 big blocks than C3 big blocks - 11,189 to 6,006. In my mind, the solid engine cars are (and should be) significantly more valuable than the hydraulic cars because they represent the pinnacle of that era of performance. The hydraulic engines have more in common with their passenger car and truck counterparts than with a serious high performance engine.
I have an idea how you feel. I have been watching a 66 L-72 coupe since it came to reside in my area in 1973. Bought it five years ago and it will never leave my sight. Just had the 427 rebuilt and can't wait to hear the thunder.
Also like the other mid year designs, especially the two split window cars. There is a lure for the C-3 converts so after a brief search ended up with a low mileage example, pretty much full option car. I still miss the C-1s that I should have kept but education for the kids seemed more important at the time. Now I can take a leasurely search for the missing link and of course have not ruled out a C-6 or 7.
Being a gear head first ... its only money and the pursuit of happiness is what matters most. Enjoy the 69, drive it like a theft in progress.
It is interesting to note I passed on a 69 hugger orange big block coupe , four speed with air not more than three years back. At 17k it was a deal, I knew it, but wasn't something I would keep and enjoy. Not being a flipper I would not want to insult a friend by making a profit.
I have a soft spot for 69s - that's the year I graduated high school.
Still don't think I'd have done this deal though. Just never found the C3 body style very appealing. Purely personal preference as I know many revere the C3s -- especially the BB chrome bumper versions.
This is why I posted here.....even the "nays" are not conviced I am not doing the right thing.....
I can and will modify this car to "tweak" it in....
It will get:
69' Off road exhaust (Tax return )
MSD Jebby curved distributor and 6AL
front end lowered 1 inch....and 215/70/15 front tires flipped black
Disc brake flat caps....
Rear speaker box...
Possibly a removable hardtop.....
It has to sit just right.....and look tough.....you all will see....but have to go!
The truck is running outside!
It does pang me a bit to get rid of my red Vette.....but it is only a car....

Jebby
Just so you know, there was no 69 off road exhaust. The N11 off road exhaust option ended in 1968. What was available was the side exhaust - the 69 being the only year side exhaust was available (on a C3). But as with all Corvette factory optioned side exhaust systems (L88 excluded), they were power robbing, not power enhancing.
(And since you asked, put me in the column that definitely would not have made this trade. Maybe for an L89 69, but not for the L68. Still, it's your decision so good luck with the car.)

YOU DID THE RIGHT THING! Because it's what YOU want. Now, if in a few weeks, months you decide you didn't do the right thing.... please share it with us. I had a '71, although a SBC and TH400, for 20 years. It was a DD for most of it. When I added the '67 it was interesting how similar the mechanicals are yet how different the driving experience is.
Have a safe drive!
Jebby, I could never do that but I'm older than you. What worries me is that your input here on the C2 section will be missing. Another knowledgeable source is lost. That's way too many now.
I am into my second month of owning my first c2 and am still unsure about giving up in the quest to buy a 70 454 car I was pursuing from a reluctant owner.
I always wanted a c2 but the big block c3 is also on my list. I say good deal!

Good luck on the C3!
Bud.
No worries Bud....still here and appreciate the kind words....
I have been a C2 kid for years.....they are special to me.....
Change is good though......
If I don't like it....I will move on back to a Trophy Blue
66' with A/C!
Great looking car and I would have done the same deal. I love the early C3 convertibles. I've always thought that the C3's were designed as convertibles first where C2's were coupe first. I'm almost certainly wrong on this. But looks wise? I take the C3 over the C2 convertible. And then you top it with a tri-power 427 with air? Hell yes!!
