Default 1964 Electrical questions

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'd like to ask a couple of questions before I burn something down. I'm about to add an amp and an auxiliary charger to my car and I'm thinking about just connecting them to the two terminals on the bottom right side of the fuse panel that says power windows. Would you suggest that? The two items will have fusible links. On the other hand I'd rather not do that because they are hot all of the time. I have two more terminals just above those that say "ACC. LPS." that are not hot at all. Should they be when the key is on? See the first photo below.

Also on the second photo you'll see a terminal that is on the drivers side just above the kick panel. What is it's purpose? Should it have some type of cover over it due to be hot all of the time?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

/Tracy

Default Charger

That's not the way I would go. If you are trying to keep your battery fully charged, I would add a battery cutoff switch. After the battery is isolated, I would hook up a smart charger. It will keep your battery in top condition without over charging. You can use the remote battery hook up wired directly to the battery for charging. The wiring in your car appears to be original and is approaching 50 years of age. Keeping a constant current through the old wiring is begging for a problem. Lastly, the power window circuit breaker should have a rubber covering on it to prevent a short. Good luck. Jerry

I hooked my amp to the pos side of the battery directly with an inline fuse. Neg went to the frame. Then the blue wire from the amp went to the ign switch. Been that way for years.

Thanks for the info. Going directly to the battery makes more sense. I'll call around to the venders Monday to see if anyone of them has a cover for the circuit breaker.

One last question about the fuse panel. Shouldn't the "ACC. LPS." have current when the ignition is switched on? I thought for sure at one point I had power there. Thanks!
