Default Front seal replacement

I've replaced them on many cars but never on a midyear. Is this doable on a 66 coupe L-79 with the hood on the car or does it have to come off? Also, I may have developed a groove on the HB. Has anyone ever installed a repair sleeve on one? Thanks in advance. Mac

Replacing the front seal on a SB and installing a sleeve on the harmonic balancer is the same for all SBs. It's a fairly easy and straight forward task.

Thanks Tom, just wasn't sure if this could be accomplished on a mid year without removing the shroud or the hood. I'll give it a try this week.

Depending on how easy the access is to the balancer for removal, you MAY need to remove the shroud.

I recently removed my balancer to repair the front cover on mine (which was leaking due to the bad spot welds - do a search on this for pics). You can do it pretty easily with the hood and shroud in place. With the fan and pulleys out you can get a good swing on the ratchet on the puller bolt.
Not a problem (as long as you have a good puller).
