Starting Problem
I’ve tried several times to explain my starting problem to the forum on my 63 SWC and get help. I have a 66 327 engine with a 64 FI unit a K66 option. When it runs, it runs great!! When refusing to start, it just cranks and if it fires, it back fires through the intake. Sometimes it makes several revolutions as though it is attempting to run backwards. Once this nonsense starts and if it does finally fires off and runs like it is flooded, running on just a few cylinders until the clears up, even on cold starts. I have to be careful when its hot because it can flood easily.
A friend suggested that I was not getting 12 volts to the distributor on startup. Checked the voltage with the key in the start position and it was 9V and 8Vwhen running in the on position. Removed that starter and cleaned the solenoid which did have some corrosion on the ‘R’ terminal contact. Also replaced the wire from the ‘R” terminal the distributor junction, verifying continuity Now I have 10V(???) at start and 8 on ‘ON’. Also had a VOM across the battery during start and it maintained 12 plus volts while cranking.
Finally, I’ve maintained a log for the pass month to see if any external situations could be affecting the startup. It appears that I have more starting problems on high humidity days.
Now to my questions: 1. could the humidity be affecting the electronics in the K66 module and if so are these the symptoms; 2. where could the 2V drop come from??

This article mentions a known moisture related issue
