Default Engine configuration when car built?

How can I tell how my 61 vette was originally equipped with the engine and trans when it came from the factory?
Vette now has 327 which was not available then.
Thanks

You can't, although there are some "clues" to narrow it down a little, like F.I. air cleaner holes in the left inner fender, tachometer redline, location of tach cable hole in the firewall, etc.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look for those suggestions.

They were all 283s and there are very few clues but these may help narrow it down if the tach and trans are still original:

230 hp 1x4 Hyd cam = low RPM Tach
245 hp 2x4 same as above
275 hp FI same as above

270 hp 2x4 Solid cam = high RPM Tach
315 hp FI same as above

You would have evidence of air box mounting holes if it was an FI car.

If it has the 2 spd powerglide AT, only 230 and 245 hp engines came with it.
