Heater Box Question
I am replacing the seals in my 1960 heater/defroster unit. Should some type of sealant or adhesive be used with the foam-like seals? I was scraping off the remainder of the original seals yesterday and there was a gooey substance that I couldn't identify. Thanks
Any inside seals don't require a sealer. Allegedly the factory added a non hardening sealer on the forward seal before installing into the firewall. There is no mention of that in the AIM so it may have been on a "as needed" basis only.
You can put some 3M strip caulk on the outer seal before installation. I usually leave it dry as the strip caulk looks quite messy after installation.
edit....added a few pics. You can see if you put sealer on the foam seal before you install it, it's going to ooze out and be obviously ugly looking.
Ignore the C-clip on the wrong end of the latch hinge pin in pic 1 of a '59. Should be reversed. blk car is a '60.Rich
