windshield wiper transmission reassembly and cable installation
Hello
I am a newby to this forum and a 58 Corvette owner for 18 months.
My right hand wiper transmission diassembled itself during a heavy rainstorm last August.
I have it out of the car and I have all the parts and they look OK. The fit of the shaft to the outside pulley would be very tight, but it is not obvious to me how the timing of the outside pulley should be indexed to the inside pulley. Help ????
The manual makes a short reference to pushing down on the shaft once the transmission is installed. Is this somehow a way of getting the tension on the cables???
Any words of advice on how to hook the cables to the wiper motor assembly???? I understand that the RH cables need to be crossed
What a crappy place to work, up under the dash !!!!!
Please help from someone who has been down this road, or has better printed procedure, than I have
Best regards, Genehttps://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Good morning,
These two items should help...
http://www.carols62.com/59/wiper_trans.htm
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...rans-woes.html
I haven't touched the wiper cables in my 62 in 30 years so my memory is fading, but the above should get you in the right direction.

Read the two articles cited above and that will get you on the right track. It can be quite confusing to get the right cable in the right grooves on the center drum when you are upside down and looking around in the dark. This picture of my car may help...
The center shaft on the left/right transmissions is just peened in place and can actually drop completely out of the assembly. Most of the better restorers drill through the shaft and pin it before reinstalling the transmission in the car.

Thanks loads for the replies to my post. I learned a lot - enough to understand that I am missing that recoil spring that connects the 2 pulleys on the bottom side of the wiper transmission.
Now I need help on where to get parts for the infernal thing or a resource for a reasonable rebuilder. The only one I have found is a open ended pricing option from one of the aftermarket catalog suppliers ( I think it was Ecklers) Can I do better? If someone had a used one laying around that would have the required spring, I would be very happy about that.
Thanks in advance for the help
