Default Security lock hole

I have a 1962 Corvette, original condition. The is a small hole in the driver side fender, around 4 inches from the driver front door, 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch round where a security alarm switch was installed. Should I try to fix the hole or leave it alone? This would involve repairing the hole and repainting the fender. I am interested in certifying the car as a survivor.

Well I think a survivor means how it came from the factory. I would leave it alone. If that is the only "non-survivor" thing that is wrong with the car, I think you would still be able to get survivor status.

If you wanted to remove it, yes, a body shop would have to remove and reglass that hole and then blend with lacquer.

Ya know - I think I would try to find a simulated lock to go in the hole or something. I left the old holes for the tonneau cover snaps in my deck lid on the '61 before the repaint. I was very concerned the holes would eventually "print though" when the paint shrunk up and cured. I put snaps in the holes and its actually a nice topic of conversation with admirers of the car.

I have that same damn 1980's alarm hole in my d/s fender too! What I did, for the time being, was to buy a set of hole plugs at the auto parts store, picked out one that fit, sanded and painted it to match and put in the hole. Its not nearly as noticeable as the chrome barrel lock that was there.

Best solution. It would appear functional and not suffer from the problems of trying to repair the hole.

Just to toss out there in case you want to get rid of the hole, I think for survivor classes you only need a certain % of your paint be original. Some NCRS guys will know for sure.

Survivor is a Bloomington gold certification and it says "remains over 50% original" so I wouldn't think an alarm hole in the fender itself would cause you to loose that criteria. An extensive fender repair repaint and blend definitely would affect that goal.

NCRS has Bowtie which is something completely different...

There's a lot more here:

Just a thought...there are Chevy emblems available from that era with the crossed flags that may cover the hole...re: used with the Fuel injection emblems. You will never match the paint...like someone said...put a lock slug back in if nothing else.

Depends on the color. My car is black.
