Is Driving Without a Right Side View Mirror Safe?

I drove professionally for years and anyone that says you don't need a mirror on the right side is probably a poor driver anyway. It's useful anytime you back into a parking place like at a cruise. Also as you get older, turning your head and looking behind gets more difficult. I agree that if the next guy doesn't want it, he can fill the hole and repaint.
Just so you know, it's not just the mirror you'll need a metal brace/bracket that goes inside the door to support the fiberglass. I believe all the venders carry them.

I thought about putting one on my '66 when I first got it, but after driving it a while, I found out I really didn't need it. I did miss it some, since I've almost always had one, but I adjusted and just took a little more time on lane changes and moved my body a little more too to get a good look.
Get the car and drive it a while...If you really miss having one, by all means install it...I have a feeling you'll be happy like it is, and probably enjoy the classic lines of the car while not having one.
Congrats on the car...Be sure to post photos soon!!

Thanks, Sonny. That was my plan, drive it and decide before poking holes in it. I hope it'll be just fine w/o the mirror. Funny how we get dependent on things like mirrors and now back-up cameras. My Carrera S didn't have a back-up camera option so I'm getting along without it, though I'd prefer to have it. Maybe I'll adjust to the lack of right-side mirror the same as I've adjusted to the lack of rear camera.
And, thanks for your civility. Not everyone on this forum is so nice.

Jeff,
Looking at the responses so far, most are against the right side mirror. With that as the majority, it would seem that when the time comes to sell the car, the number of potential buyers are not going to be as great for the car with a right side mirror. That shouldn't necessarily reduce the value of the car but it might take longer to sell it. Food for thought.

That video makes me want to watch that movie again!! Haven't seen that since I was a kid!!
The responses to some threads can be quite entertaing sometimes...I think some of the guys like to have a couple of drinks, then go slalom through the threads...

A right side mirror, not a bad idea. Some opinions here say that the mirror on the right side gives it a more balanced look. Personally, it just doesn't look right to me. Awhile back our C1/C2 (sorry Tom) sub-section avatar was a Nassau Blue coupe with a right side mirror. It just never looked right to me.

The consensus is that originality trumps safety, it would appear. I'll see what it's like driving with the top up to see how much of a blind spot there is because I intend to drive this car and Miami traffic is pretty hellacious. If I do decide to add the mirror, at least I'll be in good company: Zora Arkus Duntov himself had a right side mirror on his track car. (My apologies to Jim Sears for borrowing his photo)

This is a tough group, but if you decide on a RH mirror, keep in mind that it has to be mounted further to the rear. The door post on the 58-62's, and the vent window on the 63-67's will block your view from the drivers seat. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If early vettes were meant to have a mirror on the right door, God would have made them that way....
go ahead and shoot me, I'm finished.

I guess I should be banned from the road then.
No right hand mirror and a big "split" down my rear window - can't see squat. If I ping the gas a little I find myself ahead of traffic and just move around anyway I please.
Isn't that why we drive these cars ?
