Default "Corvette" engines, continued

I wanted to post an amusing "Corvette engine" story, but the thread was closed. AFAIKnew at the time, hydraulic-lifter C2s had engines identical to what you'd find in other V8 Chevies. Hope you get a laugh:

Never thought I'd have a chance to steal a tri-five Chevy, Malibu, etc. owner line, but in 1969, when my 250hp/PG '64 was just a cheap old used car (but very clean), I parked at a walk-in movie theater.

My girlfriend and I were just walking away from the car when a kid not more than 10 years old, stretching to look older, strolled up to us with toes turned out and both hands in his jeans. He drawled out the side of his mouth:

"Say, mister, is that a fast car?"

I narrowed my eyes and replied:

"It better be, sonny, it's got a COR-VETTE engine in it!"

Thanks. I did use kind of an Eastwood "Dirty Harry" ("Feel lucky, punk?") tone. But the kid absorbed it like we were equals, no problem at all.

Maybe you'll get the same question from a person of any age at a car show some day.
