I had mine moved behind the seats in the jack storage compartment. Needed to raise the floor a bit for the battery to fit under the cover. However I think your looking to go farther back than I did if understanding correctly?
Your options will vary depending on what type of chassis you have. Are you referring to a full restomod with a new upgraded frame? If so, what frame and suspension package do you have?
not really, just anywhere outside the engine compartment
I moved mine to that location because I was not sure I would be able to dig it out after the transplant? I would vent the area if doing this, others may disagree.
2025 c3 ('68-'73) of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
C3's have the battery behind the drivers seat, like sixty4's style. Can't tell if there is enough room in a C2 for the battery or not. Originally, my '71 had battery top filler caps (2 ) with vent hoses that dropped though the floor for venting. Not sure if you need that now days with sealed batteries. I have those vented caps somewhere in my parts bag and have not used them for 15+ yrs with the newer style batteries.
Look at any C3 battery set up, parts diagram... and you'll see what I am talking about.
Contact Mike at SRIII. I know he had some pictures of a rear battery box he built for a customer. It was mounted in the passenger rear compartment. You are pretty much out of luck putting it where the jackwell was because you will need to remove it and build a new floor to clear the c6 rear suspension.
Here is a picture where I'm putting mine which is behind the rear wheel on the passenger side. This isn't mounted yet but you'll get the idea. There will be a panel made to cover the back section so you wont see it. I'm using an SRiii chassis. Mike and his crew at SRiii are doing the work so if you've got any questions I'm sure Mike can help.
Not sure what materials he will use to make it but it should look something like this once completed (my interior will be black). I borrowed this pic from another forum member.
I mounted the battery behind the right rear between the rear end and the fuel tank. It's mounted in a drop down battery box shown in the down position. I had to modify the box with a flip down panel so there was clearance to get the battery in and out of the box.
