Installing engine/trans

I remember it was a bear to get the trans to align. It really took some muscles (luckily my wife was there to help!) to get the transmission installed. So it is going in as one piece.
Should I install the side engine mounts before dropping the engine?
Which way do the bolts go through the engine mounts? Up or down?
Can I install the gorilla spring and the clutch assembly with the crossbar before installing the engine? Or will it be in the way?
Do I need to prime the oil in the engine once more? I primed it about two weeks ago?
Right now, I have the following off of the engine:
Distributor
coil and brackets
plug wires
overflow tank
fan and pulley
generator
carb

Put the motor mounts in prior to the engine
The bolts go up with the nut on top as shown I your AIM
Leave the gorilla spring and cross shaft off during install
No need to prime oil again, I routinely let cars sit for 6 months and longer between startups without issue.

You can install the engine with these mounts in place. But it's easier if they're off. I seem the remember the RH side one was in the way. If I were to do it again, I'd get the engine almost in place, and then raise it up enough to give me clearance to install the mounts. Then drop the engine down on the mounts.

Bolt heads on the bottom. Nuts on top. Are you having the car judged? There's special nuts that the judges look for. They should be a ⅝" hex nuts with dimples. One source is:

When I installed my engine the right mount got in the way of the fuel pump.
Use an engine tilter and a floor jack under the trans during the install. I don't think I removed the crossmember.

I also seem to remember that screwing that special 45 degree fuel fitting on the fuel pump is difficult. If you put it on the pump before you put the pump on the engine, it makes the pump installation more difficult. And if you screw the fitting on after the pump is in place, you can't get the fitting tight enough because it hits the frame rail as you tighten it.
The moral of the story is get the fuel pump, engine mounts, starter, and other stuff installed while the hoist is still hooked up and before the engine mount bolts are cinched up. This way, you have the flexibility to raise and lower the engine somewhat to make the installation of that stuff easier.

Installed the transmission cross member onto the transmission. We removed both side motor mounts. Also had to remove the Hurst adapter since it was really close to the firewall as it was going into the transmission tunnel. Reinstalled the motor mounts once the rear cross member was secured to the frame. We did use a floor jacket on the transmission.
No problems so far.
THANKS Jack!
