The forward two spark plug wires on my '65 327/365 are routed between the motor mounts and the block, making them impossible to change without major work. Is this correct?
I have the small two-wire loom that's screwed to the block at the plug shields, but not the oil pan retaining clip I've seen in some photos. Should the wires be routed around, rather than through, the motor mounts?

The way you describe it is correct - it should look like the LH & RH photos below.
I did mine a little bit ago. One tip I can pass on...pull the boot back from the end and then wrap the metal clip in painters tape and then coat with some vaseline or dialectic grease to make it easier to pull the boot off and put back on.
Since the metal part is crimped on, it is possible to rip the whole metal piece off. I did it on the wires that I removed...good thing I was replacing them...
