Default What is the right carb gasket? 63 340hp Carter

Gang;

See pic of original intake for 63 340hp with correct carter 3461s carb.

What is the correct style of intake/carb gasket to use.

On another thread someone questioned that I might not have the right one.

Please give a part number if you can

Any help would be great.

Your gasket should match the opening contour of your manifold.

Yes, turn gasket 90 degrees.

I like 4-hole gaskets because I once had a problem with the intake whistling with an AFB on a 4-hole intake with a 1-hole carb gasket. But, with that manifold and the one side siamesed between the secondary and the primary, that is the correct gasket.

I believe the original GM gasket was configured as I posted above. I don't know where you can purchase one though unless you happened to show up on my doorstep.

The gasket the OP shows is not the correct gasket and may cause a problem if he turns it 90*.

Not being familiar with the Carter carb, I will ask the question anyway --will the 3 hole gasket for the Holley(2818) used on 64 & 65 work?

Paragon shows a separate gasket for the AFB on the 63 340 hp with aluminum manifold part number703. Bet that's the correct one.

Different bolt pattern but otherwise similar gasket configuration.

Revised my comment after I looked in Paragon catalogue. See my post above.

No, at closer look it can't be turned. I went though a list of Holley gaskets at Summit a few weeks ago and didn't see any 3-holers turn up. Another option is to make one out of gasket material if you want a 3-holer. A 4-holer should also work on it and you could trim it into a 3-holer.

Thanks all

I went tO O'Reilly's and found a Mr Gasket #55 with the four holes. I trimmed out the larger side and this seems to be OK
