I have a 1965 Corvette fuel injected coupe VIN# 194375S103686 with an engine casting number of 3782870 which should be correct to that car. The casting date on the opposite side looks like A 3 4 which I am to understand is January 3rd, 1964. I am not sure that the first letter is an "A". Is it possible that the engine casting date could be so many months away from the actual birthday of the car which is December 4, 1964? The engine stamp is 5103686 FII06HG which seems to match up with my cars' dating. The decode being the 1965 year and partial VIN# followed by Flint November 6th,and HG for fuel injected engine. Is it possible for the "A" to be an alternate letter later in the year or could a January block casting have been used in a December build car? Any help greatly appreciated.

Take a closer look at the casting date on the block - if it's really "A" (January), it's eleven months out of sync with production - it should be "I", "J", or "K". Got a good close-up photo of the stamp pad?
A 8 is only 5 days difference from A 3. Not much help. Seems like a long period of time difference, possible I suppose, too long for basic guidelines. In answer to your question, I do not believe A was used as a different code month.
thanks guys. I need to take a closer look at the stamp again. I was wondering myself if it was a "K" and not an "A". It's very hard to tell without dismantling the coil. I will take another look and clean it a bit. thanks............
