I'm working on two C2s in the door/door panel area. I'd like to replace the caulking used to hold the paper (or plastic) vapor guard that goes on between the door and the door panel.
I can't seem to find a source. Everyone keeps pointing me to the black dum-dum that some of the suppliers sell but it's too sticky and it's not what came on the cars. The material used from the factory was gray and now, after fifty years, the stuff is still soft and pliable. Anyone know a source?
Go to home depot and get the window/glass dum dum...for setting glass into panes...take out a chunk make a rope of it and stick it to door will take numerous 'ropes' to get'er done...put on paper...
But, if you want to take it off, thats another story...
What i used was a piece of Clear plastic and Clear silicone...I can peel the plastic off if i need to get to innards of the door..just reapply some silicone and reapply plastic..
John,
I just used some on the back window of my hardtop. It's made by MD and is called Cord Weatherstrip. It is gray and never hardens. I got mine at Lowes. You need to ask someone who knows windows ( it took me about 15 mintutes to find it.)
A big "thank You" to everyone who responded. Since I'm not doing an NCRS style car I think I'll run over to Lowe's and got some of the Mortite weatherstrip.
