I love my 08 LS3 but lately I've become passionate about the retro stuff. C2's are my favorite looking generation of the corvette and I would be looking for a 427 coupe. Having them both would be ideal but I can't swing that.
Can anyone enlighten me on this situation if anyone has lived it?
As for me, I've got a 2007 coupe and a 65 coupe and they are night and day different. For one thing, the 2007 is an extremely competent daily driver but the 65 is an EVENT every time I go somewhere in it. It feels special to drive, even if it's half the car the 2007 is in terms of performance and comfort.

Thanks 62Jeff. I will look into Chattanooga's story. As you said when you drive your 65 it's an event and I feel that way when I take out my 2008 as it's not a DD but there's a part of my soul that isn't fulfilled.
I still have my 10 GS and recently bought a 63 327/340. I could keep only one it would be the 63 with no hesitation. Similar to you, I had that C2 itch. Good luck scratching it.
I have both too...and Between the two I feel complete...just or or the other doesnt do it for me. The C2 is great for old school (read slow-ish) cruising...not a good commuter. The C6Z is great for FAST and serious driving and commuting.
If you have the itch for a C2, then I'd definitely say go for it! I wanted one ever since I was 6 years old, but just never found the right car at the right time, until a couple of years ago. I already had (and still have) a C6 Z06, but I found a great driver 1966 big block convertible with an L72 and jumped on it! I really wanted a '66, since it was the same year I was born.
I have a tendency to flip cars and motorcycles very regularly, but I can truly say the C2 will always be a car in my garage! While I love my Z06, everytime I drive the C2, it feels like I'm part of something very special! A lot of guys say they wouldn't want to daily drive one, but I'd do it to mine in a heartbeat, if I didn't care about it so much. We also do a lot of long road-trips in the C2 and I love being on them in it - it's always such a blast to see everyone's reaction to the car and talk to people about it! I think the cars out there differ a lot in their driveability, and I think I got a really great one...
Take the time a get the car you really want, and one that fits your bill...If you want a good driver, they're out there! Good luck in the search and have fun!!
A compromise you may want to consider is a well executed C2 Restomod that blends the best of both; the handling / braking / power / reliability of a C6 with the styling of the C2. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea but for me, it has been the best classic car I have and will continue to own!!!

I've always owned newer Corvettes for traveling and usually get bored with them after a year or 2. My C6 Z06 is the only newer Vette that has never bored me. It is brutally fast, comfortable and fuel efficient. Nothing can ever take the place of the solid axles and mid years for the feeling of nostalgia you get when behind the wheel. Drive a nice big block mid year and you will love it. If you could own both a mid year big block and a C6 Z06 is pretty hard to beat.
I've got both a C6Z and a C2 (66coupe) and I love driving both. the C6Z is certainly a refined engineering marvel and will put a smile on your face as you wind through the gears. On the other hand the '66 harkens back to a much simpler time - primitive but a blast to drive. I learned to drive back in the late 60's so in some ways this is deja vu all over again for me. I had my original radio overhauled with a MP3 input so when I'm out for a drive I'll usually have 60's songs playing.

Jeff did the hard work for me! Pm me if you want. I had owned an early c3 and driven c2's before, so I knew I truly wanted the experience not just the appearance. Yes, the names are the only thing in common. I would have both if I could, but I would never go back if it meant giving up the '64! By all means drive a few and decide where your heart lies. There is a good bit of variance in feel of these cars unless you side by side compare two identically optioned flawlessly restored examples. They are 50 years old now! I for one am finally at "car inner peace." Best of luck to you and let us know what you do! This forum is an outstanding group on the whole, with just enough prickly folks thrown in to keep it amusing!
The C2 is more comfortable to get in, get out, and in general to drive around. With that said it really doesn't compare to a modern car for daily driving (no cup holders, most don't have power anything, etc).
The C6 has longer doors and in general is harder to climb in and out. The creature comforts are better. They are easy to drive fast but harder to drive around (in my area) because they are so low to the ground.
If I was daily driving to work the C6 is a no brainer for the safety and comfort. For weekend driving the C2 can't be beat. As already said the C2 is more of an experience. For me it's way more fun to drive a car like the C2. It feels fast. Loud. Fun. It's more like riding a Harley vs. a sport bike.
Well put. And, it's more like riding an old panhead than a new streetglide...much more aura. A bit more gratifying work to keep going. Pride of maintaining it? In spades.
I have a 2 , 5 , and 6. Great comments above about the differences - love all 3. All totally different. My license plates should read PHAST, PHASTER and OMYGOSH
If you need a fulfill that need for a 2 - go for it, be selective , and get a good driver .... garage queens need not apply IMHO - drive it !!
A little background: I used to have a '66 convertible as my ONLY car. I drove all over the New York Metropolitan area in it - even during blizzards. That was 1981 and even for a 22 year-old driving his dream car it became a headache with repairs (wheel bearings, U-joints, starter, alternator, etc.). It just left me hanging one too many times. That said, I would've kept it if I had another car to drive.
Now, fortunately, 30 years later I have both a '66 and a C6. If I had to keep just one car, it would be the Z06 for the aforementioned reasons.
