You might post in the C1/C2 Parts for Sale section here with a WTB (Want To Buy) for a switch. I'll bet somebody has one. Otherwise you prob need to fork over the $$$. You would think this would be something you could pick up at NAPA or the like. NOT!
I spent a good 45 minutes with my NAPA guy going through all his old paper catalogs to match something up for my '61 and we came up dry... Either the electrical hook up was wrong or else the mechanical attachment to the dash wouldn't work...
I had to pay the money for a suitable repro. Just part of life with these cars.

You're right parts are not cheap. Problem is the one I have is less than 2 years old and has already gone to he11.

How bad is the original switch? I found a couple of loose terminals on one of mine and just re-staked with a punch and a little solder, and it has been working since.

The switch is less than 2 years old, everything is tight. If I could take it apart I could now doubt fix it but it's made from pot metal and opening it up and putting it back together will probably be and issue.
As Frankie say, I may have to spend the $$
It may make you feel better to know that my '61 repro switch has been in the car and working well for about 5 years now. One thing helps and that's not having a wad of stuff dangling off your key chain that swings back and forth when the key is in the ignition. (Not saying you do though). My key chain has a leather C1 tab and the ignition key on it - that's it.
If you do not care about originality you can use one from NAPA or other local parts store. You will, however, have to modify the electrical connections since the switch has screw type terminals. In my case that was not a problem since I was using a non stock wiring harness. Here is a picture of the one I used on my '59.
