Default '62 engine install. Motor mount question

FINALLY set the engine/tran back in the car tonight. I installed the new motor mounts, and when I started tightening the bolts down, it seemed like the upper mount squeezed down quite a bit before I got to the specified torque value.

Can anyone tell me if this is typical, or even provide a picture of a proper installation? I'm not too concerned, but want to make sure this is normal.

Thanks!

Mike

You have the upper and lower mounts installed? I don't remember torqueing mine, I just tighten the bolts.

I believe my AIM manual called out a 28-35 ft lb torque. Sure seems like they are compressed at that value.

Do you have the metal sleeve in there too, to keep the top and bottom mounts from compressing too much?

Hah! That's it. Ordered the mount kit, but picked up some grade 8 bolts at the hdwe store. You should have seen how it WAS mounted when I pulled it. Definitely not correct, so I didn't have anything to go by. Guess I should have ordered the bolt kit, too.

Any idea what the length of the sleeve is?

Thanks.

I'm afraid I do not. To make your challenge more difficult, the AIM shows just a hint of that sleeve peeking above the top mount but doesn't give it a part number. It would have been hard to notice the sleeve by only looking at the AIM.

Hey, thanks, Jeff. Maybe someone has one and will pipe in with the length. Otherwise I will just order a set.

Nope, because the motor mount bolts are 7/16in which is larger than sway bar link bolts.
