Default clutch replacment

i've got a 365 stock engine with a 5 speed tremic trany. everything i've read here says the LUk #04-021 is the clutch to order. i didn't know if the 5-speed made any difference? its the same weather its a 5 or 4 speed ?

Just make sure the clutch kit is the right one for a Tremec...the output shaft on a Tremec has a different spline count (more) than a Muncie 4 speed.

I cannot remember what the spline count is for the Tremec. Someone else probably will chime in...

Ok..I did some refreshing my memory...if you go to NAPA and tell them what you have, they can look up the right LUK clutch kit.

Couple of key points when ordering:

1. Tell them you need the clutch disc that accepts a 31 spline output shaft for a TKO600 transmission.

2. you need to know what diameter clutch you need...10.5 or 11 inch.

If you have the stock small block bell housing you are running a 10.5 inch diameter clutch.

The big blocks or those that have swapped to the larger diameter clutch (me), run an 11 inch clutch. Not sure if your TKO setup has the 10.5 or 11 inch clutch. Easiest way to tell is to check the bell housing numbers.

No, you can't use a small block bell housing to run an 11 inch clutch. To run the larger 11 inch clutch, you have to go to the 621 Bellhousing to accommodate the 11 inch clutch.

I run the 11 inch clutch with my 383 and TKO600...I wanted the added strength of the larger clutch.

Crunch out...

You will need a kit with a 26 spline, 10.5 inch disk. I know a lot of CF members like LUK kits, but they're had to find for these cars because the 26 spline disk was only used with M22 rock crusher transmissions.

I can't seem to find a 10.5 inch single disk 26 spline kit anywhere I usually look, although Hurst Powertrain apparently sells a clutch set as an option with its Tremec conversion kit.

Avispa, you jogged my memory a little...I think I went to American Power Train and had them send me a 31 spline clutch disc...I can't remember for sure, but the LUK kit can be had at NAPA easily and readily available and you can swap in the disc.

I have had great Luk with Carolina Clutch. They are very reasonable and excellent to deal with. Give them a call and tell them what you have. I bought a Luk from them last year and they were by far the most reasonably priced.

Default Tremec

Are you going to pull the engine to replace the clutch? I tried to swap out my Muncie with a Tremec and ended up pulling the engine after much screaming and cursing. I should have put in a removable cross member. Jerry
