C1 Engine Code: Need Help Please
I have a 1959 C1 that I just pulled the engine out of yesterday. Here is what I found and I need some help understanding what it is. The engine block code is: 3731548. I was told by the previous owner that it was a 283ci engine, but NOT the original engine (which is totally fine b/c I'm not a numbers person; the car is getting a brand new crate SBC). I also noticed the heads have "X" stamped above/between the spark plugs. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Do a search for '57 283 3731548. There is a Dec. 2010 post with the same question; may provide answers you seek.
