Default PCV on 63 functioning correctly?

I was looking at a parts catalog recently and discovered my PCV assembly is not original. However, is it still functioning as well with this configuration? The hose from the oil filler tube to the air cleaner is still in place in the front. If it isn't working correctly how would it affect the motor? The motor (250 hp-no power accsy's)was rebuilt and a new valve installed about 10,000 mi. ago. The motor has performed well since re-build. Thanks-lib[IMG][/IMG]

If there is no PCV system pressure from crankcase blow-by can push oil out through gasket areas plus the engine oil will dilute with the unburned contaminants from combustion, this forms sludge in the engine.

You PCV system simply needs the correct tube from the rear engine grommet and the rubber hose which connects the tube to the PCV valve.

Your PCV system is working correctly - however the routing and plumbing pieces are wrong.

You can order all those parts from Zip, and I just did, here are the part numbers and prices (you can ignore the vacuum line unless you need one). That first item (vent tube) should come out from the rear grommet behind the distributor on the passenger side and come up near the vacuum advance (under the rubber vacuum hose). The rubber hose (second item) attaches to that metal tube then the PCV valve (last item) at the rear of the carb. No hose clamps were used originally.

As an interesting aside, the '63 one-year-only PCV system works backwards (flow-wise) from subsequent years. (Found this out recently from JohnZ)
