Default c2 steering column position

I haven't found a spec for how far into the dash the steering column should be postioned. Any advice?

Can't remember which midyear service manual I read it in but in an attempt to allow more room from chest to steering wheel, I found the column could be moved down towards the steering box but you need to keep the gap dimension between worm gear shaft and steering mast at no less than 3/8 or 1/2 inch after loosening up the rag joint.

Thank you. My gap was too small. At 1/2 inch a vibration problem I've had for a long time on acceleration is gone. Such a simple thing...
